01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
There is more to choose from than sweet sauce or soy sauce: Takomasu offers ginger dashi, salted sauce, spicy sauce, wasabi dashi, house ponzu and shiso ponzu, too. Part of the fun is deciding which flavour to try. The menu lists the takoyaki at 600 yen. Diners who chose the sweet sauce have remarked on the combination of its soft, creamy batter and sauce, while those who opted for the spicy sauce enjoyed the heat to their taste. Start with the classic sauce, or compare the flavours with soy sauce or wasabi dashi for a taste of dashi.
Another option is tsuyu tako: fried takoyaki served with dashi. Listed at 350 yen, it offers a broth-based alternative to regular takoyaki. One diner reported that the fried takoyaki came with grated daikon, ginger, spring onion and shredded nori, all enjoyed with the dashi. It may appeal on a cold day when you fancy something warm and brothy, or when you want to add a dish that is different from the sauce-covered version.
For a lighter bite, try tamasen, available on weekdays only. Choose from 4 flavours: sweet, spicy, soy sauce or salted sauce. Spring onion or cheese can be added for 50 yen each. One diner enjoyed theirs with plenty of spring onion, making it an option when you want to add an extra topping to your takoyaki.
There is terrace seating outside, and some diners have reported sitting there to eat. For a bite between shops, you could pair takoyaki in your preferred flavour with tsuyu tako and its dashi. Payment is cash only.
